QuickBooks › ProAdvisor
Choosing a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
A ProAdvisor is an accounting professional certified by Intuit to set up, clean up, manage, and troubleshoot QuickBooks files. Here is what the credential covers, what it doesn't, and what to ask before you hire one.
Fixed fee, agreed in writing once the free review of your file is done.
Reviewed before delivery: before the file comes back to you, each account in it is reconciled to its statement and anything unresolved is written down. The six review steps.
Quick answer
The ProAdvisor title is an Intuit software certification, not a tax license or a CPA designation. If you need your books kept rather than QuickBooks taught, check two things separately: the certification, in Intuit's directory, and whether the firm reconciles every account to its statements and reviews the work before delivery.
Credentials
What the credential covers — and what it doesn't.
An Intuit certification shows that a bookkeeper has been trained and tested on the software. It doesn't replace bookkeeping judgment, and it isn't a license to file taxes. It is a useful filter — one of several things to check before you hire.
Every engagement is reviewed by a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. Credentials held: Intuit QuickBooks Certification Level 1, Intuit QuickBooks Certification Level 2, QuickBooks Online Payroll Certification, Client Advisory Services Foundations and Intuit Bookkeeping Certification. Verification available on request.

Check it yourself
How to verify a ProAdvisor's certification yourself.
A badge on a website is a claim. Intuit's directory is where the certification can be checked.
- Open Intuit's Find a ProAdvisor directory at quickbooks.intuit.com/find-an-accountant.
- Enter a location (zip code, town or address) and filter by industry, services and preferred software.
- Open the firm's listing and check the credentials it shows.
- Read a certification for what it is: a passed Intuit QuickBooks proficiency certification exam; ProAdvisors are independent, not Intuit employees.
- A ProAdvisor who doesn't recertify is de-certified and the profile is unpublished, so a live listing reflects current certification.
- Ask the firm for its Credly badge or certificate; Intuit issues ProAdvisor certification badges through Credly.
Method checked on against Intuit's directory and ProAdvisor program pages. Intuit changes its program; where its pages differ from these steps, follow Intuit.

Figure data as a table
| Date | Event | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| On passing | Certified | Passed Intuit's QuickBooks proficiency exam: a software certification, not a degree or a CPA license. |
| After passing | Badge issued through Credly | Ask the firm for its Credly badge or certificate. |
| Every May–June | Annual recertification | QuickBooks Online Level 1 and Level 2 certifications are renewed in this window. |
| Window missed | De-certified, profile unpublished | So a live listing in Intuit's Find a ProAdvisor directory reflects a current certification. |
